Founded by experienced photographer Tom Kates in July of 1991, Tom Kates Photography is dedicated to personalized client service. The Brookline, Massachusetts, studio stresses both artistic integrity and commercial appeal. Kates serves such corporate and nonprofit clients as Staples, the MIT Sloan School of Management, Dartmouth College, and Covidien. His work includes portraits, still lifes, landscapes, and conceptual pieces. He is also an accomplished sports and lifestyle photographer. In his current personal projects, Kates is exploring a return to black-and-white photography.
Tom Kates holds a bachelor of arts in American studies from Brandeis University in Massachusetts, where he completed a senior thesis project entitled “Shooting the Truth: An Exploration of Still Photographs in 20th-Century American Cinema.” After earning his degree with honors, he worked for two years with several in-demand Boston photographers before going into business for himself. His work is known for its warmth, expressiveness, and affection for its subjects.
